Data Visualisation Volunteer
NoSchoolViolence.org is revolutionizing the way we understand and reduce school violence. We research police and social responses to school violence in order to create new types of databases. In order to do this, we are completing case study analyses of every school shooting since 1990. Our new database will provide data visualization insights from pattern analysis, treating each shooting as an ecosystem of interrelated elements. This is a radically different approach to school violence data because 99% of existing data on school violence are trend reports and provide no ability to analyse school violence patterns. We are seeking research assistants for this project. Our teams of researchers need support in cleaning up our data sources and using them to create effective visualisations. Ideally, you will have experience of data visualisations (scatter, line, bar and box plots, maps, and histograms) as well as knowledge of analytics (clustering, classification, timeseries, linear and polynomial regression). We also assume that you have background in using Alteryx and Tableau together in order to produce effective data visualisations.
Domestic Terrorist Researcher
NoSchoolViolence is working with the National Institute of justice to correlate school violence perpetrators with Domestic terrorists. We are conducting a rigorous research and evaluation project targeted toward developing a better understanding of the domestic radicalization phenomenon and advancing evidence-based strategies for effective intervention and prevention. This includes research efforts that explore the radicalization of Americans, particularly a certain school violence group of perpetrators, to white nationalist extremism, and those exploring emerging militant left-wing movements, to identify and advance evidence-based strategies for effective intervention and prevention. We need help to conduct this research, so please apply if you are interested.
Covid-19 School Re-Entry Researcher
NoSchoolViolence.org needs a special research team willing to drill deep to discover historical events in which children were taken from schools for various reasons and then returned to face re-socialization pressures. We study the nature, causes, trends, and patterns related to school violence and we know no national initiative is currently focused on the emotional toxicity children face currently and whether school violence events will increase when schools reopen and if so, how to recognize what will trigger them. Teachers and schools need all the help they can to anticipate these new levels of violence. If selected you will be working with a team that will first gather pertinent data, then analyse it for adequacy, create a spreadsheet, and finally work with our data visualization team to create a free app that parents, teachers, and schools can use to better anticipate what they might experience. Volunteers with historical, psychological, sociological, ethnographic and behavioural science research experience are encouraged to respond. We look forward to working with you.
NoSchoolViolence.org is a non-profit research institute focused on developing a better understanding of school violence and converting our research into actionable insights and programs. We are a different type of institute because we are developing big data apps to reveal unknown patterns and trends underlining school violence. We need researchers committed to investigating educational, psychological, social, economic and cultural factors having a significant role in school violence. We are developing databases that provide data visualization insights from pattern analysis, treating each shooting as an ecosystem of interrelated components. This is a different approach to school violence because 99% of existing data on school violence are trend reports having little ability to analysed in terms of what causes school violence patterns. If you are interested in getting involved, all we ask is that you have access to a laptop or desktop computer, and that you can spend 3-5 hours weekly working on this project. Please do not contact us unless you clearly have that time available. If you have any possibility of having to step back from the project, then please do not apply. We can help train you if you do not have experience with research.
