About
My name is Damien Giron. I was born in France, while my mother studied Arts and my father studied Cinema at the prestigious Paris 8 university. When they graduated, we returned to Venezuela, so I grew up there. I am telling this, because it is important to highlight that my connection with cinema and art has been present since before I said my first words. When I was 5 years old, I published my first story, with illustrations made by me in a Venezuelan magazine with national circulation. I studied Architecture at UCV at the same time that I was studying Photography and Audiovisual Media at CIECA, a school founded and directed by my father. I lived in Italy for 2 years and did a master's degree in publishing. I returned to Venezuela and worked as a fashion and advertising photographer; as a television producer, as an art director, director of photography and editor in national and international productions. I had the opportunity to work in Colombia making a documentary as the winner of the G3 scholarship for emerging artists and after that I emigrated to Argentina, where I currently live. Here in Argentina I studied Multimedia Design and I did a Master in Cinematography. I decided to stay in Buenos Aires because it was a good time for audiovisual production here and I worked for large advertising and fiction production companies. I returned to Venezuela for personal matters and while there I met my wife, the Director and Screenwriter Patricia Ortega, with whom we founded Mandragora Films, the production company with which we have managed to make internationally recognized Short Films, Documentaries and Feature Films. Our latest feature film, "Being Impossible" has traveled the world and is being distributed by HBO in the USA and Latin America. At the moment we are in the development stage of our next feature film, "MamaCruz" which will be made between Spain and Portugal with the wonderful Verónica Forqué, winner of 3 Goya awards and known for her role in Almodóvar's film "Kika".
