This job is posted via wellpaid.io for Economist Impact. £350-£450 / day. Outside IR35. 2-3 weeks. Economist Impact partners with corporations, foundations, NGOs and governments across big themes including sustainability, health and the changing shape of globalisation to catalyse change and enable progress. Signal Noise and the wider digital production team have a long heritage of high quality data visualisation and storytelling, and of other creative technical work. We have several short projects starting soon; they're mostly 2-3 weeks each but due to the volume we can offer a rolling contract, likely for up to a year. Due to the nature of the work we're open to different start dates or durations. The work is primarily front end layout and markup, with animation and polish required across the board. It's all based on React templates and component libraries for content types and e.g. headers and footers, and for analytics etc. Some projects are a single page, others small microsites; many involve data visualisation and charting, so D3 or SVG experience would be helpful. Almost all the work is hosted under https://impact.economist.com and is Economist branded and client sponsored.

We especially encourage people underrepresented in the tech industry to apply, and welcome your application even if you do not meet every one of the below requirements. Fearless about learning: You love learning new things. You’re curious and ask good questions. You solicit feedback from others, accept it from grace, and act on it. Attention to detail, ability to manage simultaneous work streams, and strong communication skills. Flexibility: You are comfortable with technical ambiguity, taking initiative to contribute in a variety of different and evolving ways, and enjoy considering the tradeoffs involved in different technical approaches. 3+ years of relevant experience Nice to have: Understanding of how data is used in K-12 education and the challenges faced by the classroom teacher, principal, and district administrator. Experience designing, implementing, and supporting modern, enterprise-scale microservice layers. Knowledge of modern, cloud-based data pipeline best practices. Proficiency with languages we use, such as Java, Javascript, and Ruby Familiarity with the tools we use, like Azure, GCP, Jenkins, GitHub, Jupyter, Confluence, and Slack. Experience with frameworks or services we use, like Pandas, NumPy, and Docker. Experience working remotely or as part of a geographically distributed team.
