About EveryDay Labs EveryDay Labs is a high-growth, VC-backed EdTech startup improving student outcomes at scale. By uniting behavioral science, data science, and family engagement, EveryDay Labs reduces the student attendance gap by providing school districts with data-driven, personalized interventions proven to reduce chronic absenteeism by 10-15% and mobilize families in support of the district’s strategic priorities. In over 1,500 schools across the US, we have already prevented over 1,000,000 absences, increasing instructional time for students by over 300 million minutes. Every day we strive to live our values: Student-Centered at Scale, Stronger Together, Behavioral Science at the Core, Innovation Grounded by Evidence and Research, and Fearless about Learning. About the Role As a Data Engineer at EveryDay Labs, your work will immediately improve student outcomes by helping districts across the country to reduce absenteeism and increase learning time for students who need it most -- in the classroom and in remote learning. Your primary responsibilities will be building, automating, and administering systems that will analyze student attendance data for our school district partners in order to deliver our programs, write code to configure new district programs and automate processes, and to help our partners make data-informed decisions about their broader portfolio of attendance strategies. As an early member of our Engineering & Data Science team at EveryDay Labs, you will work across a variety of projects, products, and services. As a team, our goal is to produce software and insights that are proactive, guiding our stakeholders—both internally and in schools—towards the right thing to do next, rather than taking a reactive view or simply describing what has already happened. EveryDay Labs is an equal opportunity employer, and we are actively seeking to build a team and workplace that reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. We especially encourage people underrepresented in the tech industry to apply, and welcome your application even if you do not meet every one of the below requirements. Must have: Experience managing, manipulating and analyzing large datasets. Proficiency in one or more dialects of SQL, such as Postgres, PL/SQL, or T-SQL Experience with statistical analysis, including ideally experience with randomized field experiments. Proven fluency in Python Driven by mission: you feel a deep sense of ownership for your work, and a relentless desire to deliver better results. You are passionate about solving problems. Fearless about learning: You love learning new things. You’re curious and ask good questions. You solicit feedback from others, accept it from grace, and act on it. Attention to detail, ability to manage simultaneous work streams, and strong communication skills. Flexibility: You are comfortable with technical ambiguity, taking initiative to contribute in a variety of different and evolving ways, and enjoy considering the tradeoffs involved in different technical approaches. 3+ years of relevant experience Nice to have: Understanding of how data is used in K-12 education and the challenges faced by the classroom teacher, principal, and district administrator. Experience designing, implementing, and supporting modern, enterprise-scale microservice layers. Knowledge of modern, cloud-based data pipeline best practices. Proficiency with languages we use, such as Java, Javascript, and Ruby Familiarity with the tools we use, like Azure, GCP, Jenkins, GitHub, Jupyter, Confluence, and Slack. Experience with frameworks or services we use, like Pandas, NumPy, and Docker. Experience working remotely or as part of a geographically distributed team. Experience using non-relational data stores, such as document stores, key-value stores, and graph databases Experience deploying applications on AWS and automating data pipelines and QA processes Proficiency with Unix command line tools Familiarity with modern web frameworks like React and node.js Experience with data visualization in Tableau or other visualization/BI tools An MA or PhD in a relevant technical discipline, education, or public policy EveryDay Labs is an Equal Opportunity Employer - including disability/vet status. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We are actively seeking to build a team and workplace that reflect the diversity of the communities we serve. We especially encourage people underrepresented in the tech industry to apply, and welcome your application even if you do not meet every one of the above requirements. We are a remote-only team, candidates must be fully, legally eligible to work in the United States (visa sponsorship is not available). All candidates must reside in the United States.
