The font was created during my third year studies in Vilnius Academy of Arts. The aim of the project is to acquaint with the principles of systematic creation of one of the main elements of graphic design - font. At the professional level, the font is perceived not only as element containing information, but also as a work of graphic design with an independent visual form. In different media, the font changes, transforms, adapts to the physical or virtual space, but at the same time retains its main function - the carrier of textual information. During the first week i had to undertake a personal inspirational study of visual sources online. The most successful calligraphic, experimental, drawing etudes performed by different means were presented, from which the hybrid aesthetics of the display font was being developed. From the etudes 3 different variants of the hybrid fonts were selected (serif, sans-serif and experimental), the most characteristic elements were identified, and on the basis of them three different fonts were developed (hand-drawn versions, corrected). Their originality was also checked in the MYFONT platform. One of the most successful variants was selected and developed in full set using the Fontlab program. After successfully creating the font the naming began. The dynamic and sleek inner shapes of the letters, the legs, and various curves reminded of the Art Nouveau style - the emphasis on curved natural lines of nature. The corners of the letters, meanwhile, resembled the pointed ends of flower petals, which were used extensively as a decorative element. Taking more interest in this style and the flower arrangement that was popular at the time i decided to name the font - ARUMA. Arum is a genus of flowering plants in the family Araceae, native to Europe, northern Africa, and western and central Asia, with the highest species diversity in the Mediterranean region. Adding the letter a at the end resulted in a fun-sounding word reflecting the font itself. The created full OTF font was presented for review, also with publication and presentation in dynamic media
