Customer Support Volunteer Project

Volunteer care work is one of the most worthwhile activities you can get involved in, whether it is in a developed or a developing country. Throughout the world, there are vast numbers of children who are orphaned, neglected, or under-educated and in need of love, general care, and educational support. Care placements are a chance for volunteers on a college vacation, gap year, or career break to really make a difference to children who may otherwise have little or no mental stimulation in their lives. People are often unaware of the impact they can have on another person's life, with even the smallest gesture. What will volunteers do with Care? Care volunteers don’t need to be qualified or have previous experience. The only qualities that our volunteers need to possess are compassion for fellow human beings and a desire to improve the lives of those with domestic or physical circumstances less fortunate than their own. Although work varies depending on the institution where the volunteer is placed, typical examples of jobs and tasks can include assisting local staff in providing rehabilitation exercises and therapeutic treatments to children; entertaining/educating them with games, music, arts and other exercises; helping to develop fundraising initiatives to ensure ongoing funding for these institutions; and teaching English to local staff. It is important to note that a volunteer’s impact primarily depends on his or her initiative, motivation and willingness to be proactive. As such, different volunteers will have different experiences, even at the same project and so it is advisable that volunteers should not set their expectations too high. An active, creative, flexible, and open-minded attitude, coupled with goodwill and a warm heart, will allow you to make the best of your time here.
Raising the Roof on Ho'omana: Roof Repair Fundraising

Legal & Finance Volunteer Project
Cover Picture
We are in the process of trying to reopen our store after severe flooding March 2020. We just put down a deposit to get our electrical panel repaired and are now working to raise funds to get our roof repaired so all of our new electrical isn't damaged from rains. We do have a contractors estimate for complete repairs of our building, but hope to at least get enough to get the roof done. We are hoping to get open by 10/31/2020 to be able to start generating revenue to re open our programs by 2021. We could use some help fundraising for this, OR,...if you know a roofer willing to help us out, that would be Amazing! Once we get our electrical power fixed, we'll also be looking for help cleaning, painting and getting donations organized - I'll post under another project for that. mahalo

Colobus Conservation is eager to contribute to the scientific knowledge of this unique habitat found in Dini, the primates, wildlife that depend on it and the conflicts and solutions we are using to allow the wildlife to continue to survive alongside the human population and development. We have a number of long term research projects that research interns are able to participate in, these include, but are not limited to behavioral, home range and habitat use studies of the wild primates, enrichment engagement of our captive monkeys and pre-release assessments. Research interns must have completed and graduated from an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, have some field experience and ideally will commit for a minimum of 3 or a maximum of 6-month duration, however, shorter terms may be possible for some projects. You will be assigned your research project prior to arrival and be provided with anticipated working hours and methodology. With prior discussion and agreement, it may also be possible for MSc level students to use the data they collect from a long term project towards their thesis. We strongly encourage independent researchers of all levels to use Colobus Conservation as a research base accessing a wide range of habituated primates as well as Colobus Conservation's knowledge, contacts and accommodation facilities. In order to begin this process, take a look at our website under the menu item 'Volunteers'. Below are some of the conservation research projects that may be of interest to you and are important for further development of our conservation activities which include, Primate Electrocution, Primate Pets, Primate Vehicle Collisions, Primate Welfare, Primate Pests Behavior, and Deforestation. If you have a different topic that is of interest to you, that is also fine. Please email us at enquiries@colobusconservation.org to discuss the way forward. Prior to beginning the research, you will need to obtain the relevant permits from the Government of Kenya. You should allow a minimum of three months for this process. Please ask us for details on how to obtain the necessary research permits. Undergraduates are also encouraged to conduct their final year thesis under the guidance of Colobus Conservation, but due to the time limitations usually experienced for this research (i.e. less than three months) and the level of input required from our staff members, they are requested to apply as Eco-volunteers. Colobus Conservation also has long term data and data from on-going studies. We would be interested in students analyzing this data for their degree program in a collaborative effort.

The website was developed using Drupal. The current version is 2012 and updating the software is beyond the expertise of the webmaster. Malware has been reported by GoDaddy and is impacting the Google search results which redirect to a spam pharmacy site. Goal1: Eliminate the malicious redirect of the Benicia Tree Foundation's web address: This is impacting Google results, and is likely flagging the real site as malicious. Goal 2: Upgrade to a secure version of HTTP: SSL certificates also increase security and will impact search engine traffic. Goal 3: Update the DRUPAL software to the most current version: The current software is over 8 years old and will not ever be secure due to numerous vulnerabilities that have been fixed in subsequent platform updates. The current theme is also no longer supported, and may break if the Drupal core platform is upgraded.

Website developer for a high-tech, low cost ventilator nonprofit
User avatar
New Zealand
Web, Mobile & IT Volunteer Project
Cover Picture
We are a non-profit charitable trust aiming to produce a low-cost Ventilator and distribute it for a "What you see fit" price around the world to those who need it the most. Our Ventilator is different from other emergency Ventilators in that it will be controllable over the Internet, with the medical professional observing the Patient over a phone camera, thus reducing viral load on the medical professionals at the front line, enabling those in stable countries to help and allowing one doctor to have an overview over many patients. Using the latest technology, we seek to harvest the connectivity of our Ventilator to gather vast amounts of data to identify effective treatment patterns and automize as much of the treatment as possible, releasing pressure from overwhelmed facilities. We seek volunteers that are prepared to provide the necessary expertise for this life-saving work for the duration of the emergency. For clarity, this means work without pay. However, there will be formal acknowledgements and expressions of gratitude in a variety of formats. Our MK2 Ventilator is approaching its final stage and we are beginning to look for funding. Our goal is to build 1000 Ventilators within the next 2 months and go into mass production after that. We have designed most of the pages for a brand new website that will help to promote the ventilator, allow for people/hospitals to apply for a ventilator, accept donations and promote our volunteer positions. But now we urgently need help to realize the design. We are seeking somebody with front-end and back-end capabilities who could be spending more time in the next couple of weeks but we will need help later on as well. Minimal requirements: 1 year full-time experience with HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript Clear and clean coding style Standard version control and workflow habits teamwork capabilities Additional optimal requirements: Basics in UI and UX Design 3+ years of full-time experience and several Websites deployed. 30+ h per week availability

3 years ago the UN warned of a Global Mental Health epidemic. The pandemic has exacerbated this problem. We have one of the answers. A science based approach to mental and emotional health. An App that is based on clinical trials and over 30 years of successful application. The App is designed to be similar to a college course, with new concepts and exercises daily. Most information is shared via audio. The prototype, which we are ready to share with applicants, having been analyzed by a few experts, who concluded that a team of developers, both back and front end, could complete the coding in a matter of 2-3 weeks. So far over 30 professionals have volunteered hundreds of hours in developing the content, the surveys and analyzed the interviews, created the personas, the wireframes, and the design. Everything is on Figma, ready for coding. We are looking for highly experienced people, front and back end coders, iOS, Android, and React Native, who, once they understand this project, see participating as an honor - to be able to help a world-wide population. Serious, committed people who realize this may be their career's most important legacy.
