Data Visualisation Volunteer

Web, Mobile & IT Volunteer Project
NoSchoolViolence.org is revolutionizing the way we understand and reduce school violence. We research police and social responses to school violence in order to create new types of databases. In order to do this, we are completing case study analyses of every school shooting since 1990. Our new database will provide data visualization insights from pattern analysis, treating each shooting as an ecosystem of interrelated elements. This is a radically different approach to school violence data because 99% of existing data on school violence are trend reports and provide no ability to analyse school violence patterns. We are seeking research assistants for this project. Our teams of researchers need support in cleaning up our data sources and using them to create effective visualisations. Ideally, you will have experience of data visualisations (scatter, line, bar and box plots, maps, and histograms) as well as knowledge of analytics (clustering, classification, timeseries, linear and polynomial regression). We also assume that you have background in using Alteryx and Tableau together in order to produce effective data visualisations.
Covid-19 School Re-Entry Researcher

NoSchoolViolence.org needs a special research team willing to drill deep to discover historical events in which children were taken from schools for various reasons and then returned to face re-socialization pressures. We study the nature, causes, trends, and patterns related to school violence and we know no national initiative is currently focused on the emotional toxicity children face currently and whether school violence events will increase when schools reopen and if so, how to recognize what will trigger them. Teachers and schools need all the help they can to anticipate these new levels of violence. If selected you will be working with a team that will first gather pertinent data, then analyse it for adequacy, create a spreadsheet, and finally work with our data visualization team to create a free app that parents, teachers, and schools can use to better anticipate what they might experience. Volunteers with historical, psychological, sociological, ethnographic and behavioural science research experience are encouraged to respond. We look forward to working with you.

Web, Mobile & IT Volunteer Project
NoSchoolViolence.org is a non-profit research institute focused on developing a better understanding of school violence and converting our research into actionable insights and programs. We are a different type of institute because we are developing big data apps to reveal unknown patterns and trends underlining school violence. We need researchers committed to investigating educational, psychological, social, economic and cultural factors having a significant role in school violence. We are developing databases that provide data visualization insights from pattern analysis, treating each shooting as an ecosystem of interrelated components. This is a different approach to school violence because 99% of existing data on school violence are trend reports having little ability to analysed in terms of what causes school violence patterns. If you are interested in getting involved, all we ask is that you have access to a laptop or desktop computer, and that you can spend 3-5 hours weekly working on this project. Please do not contact us unless you clearly have that time available. If you have any possibility of having to step back from the project, then please do not apply. We can help train you if you do not have experience with research.

During the time of the COVID-19 outbreak, if you are unable to travel, you can still gain first-hand experience in applied marine conservation on our remote internship programme, which includes “Real Time Monitoring of Marine Ecosystems”. Students, graduates and young professionals can gain scientific, policy or communication experience working with the research team of Archipelagos Institute of Marine Conservation. This exciting remote internship offers interns an immersive opportunity to remotely aid researchers who continue to work in the field, by helping to analyze and interpret data being collected with the use of state of the art equipment. Part of this data-set can be shared in real-time, during surveys conducted in the spring, summer and autumn of 2020. Real-Time Monitoring of Marine Ecosystems uses a combination of: Drone-based marine mammal surveys, which are combined with data collected during boat-based research surveys, Underwater cameras monitoring the biodiversity of coastal ecosystems and the spread of invasive species. Footage can be shared in real-time. Underwater sensors logging oceanographic data in response to the current changing climate. With travel restrictions in place, the use of these innovative technologies and software programs overcome accessibility issues and provides remote interns with a modern way of monitoring marine ecosystems with minimal human disturbance. Data will be utilized to inform local conservation and environmental management activities. It will also help describe how ecosystems respond during the time of minimal human disturbance at sea during and after the time of restrictions due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Explore our remote internship projects and get started today! For more information you can contact us to admissions@archipelago.gr Prior experience is not required. This is an unpaid position - see fees, terms and conditions at: http://archipelago.gr/en/get-involved/placements-and-internships/

Web, Mobile & IT Volunteer Project

We are a non-profit charitable trust aiming to produce a low-cost Ventilator and distribute it for a "What you see fit" price around the world to those who need it the most. Our Ventilator is different from other emergency Ventilators in that it will be controllable over the Internet, with the medical professional observing the Patient over a phone camera, thus reducing viral load on the medical professionals at the front line, enabling those in stable countries to help and allowing one doctor to have an overview over many patients. Using the latest technology, we seek to harvest the connectivity of our Ventilator to gather vast amounts of data to identify effective treatment patterns and automize as much of the treatment as possible, releasing pressure from overwhelmed facilities. We seek volunteers that are prepared to provide the necessary expertise for this life-saving work for the duration of the emergency. For clarity, this means work without pay. However, there will be formal acknowledgements and expressions of gratitude in a variety of formats. Our MK2 Ventilator is approaching its final stage and we are beginning to look for funding. Our goal is to build 1000 Ventilators within the next 2 months and go into mass production after that. We have designed most of the pages for a brand new website that will help to promote the ventilator, allow for people/hospitals to apply for a ventilator, accept donations and promote our volunteer positions. But now we urgently need help to realize the design. We are seeking somebody with front-end and back-end capabilities who could be spending more time in the next couple of weeks but we will need help later on as well. Minimal requirements: 1 year full-time experience with HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript Clear and clean coding style Standard version control and workflow habits teamwork capabilities Additional optimal requirements: Basics in UI and UX Design 3+ years of full-time experience and several Websites deployed. 30+ h per week availability

3 years ago the UN warned of a Global Mental Health epidemic. The pandemic has exacerbated this problem. We have one of the answers. A science based approach to mental and emotional health. An App that is based on clinical trials and over 30 years of successful application. The App is designed to be similar to a college course, with new concepts and exercises daily. Most information is shared via audio. The prototype, which we are ready to share with applicants, having been analyzed by a few experts, who concluded that a team of developers, both back and front end, could complete the coding in a matter of 2-3 weeks. So far over 30 professionals have volunteered hundreds of hours in developing the content, the surveys and analyzed the interviews, created the personas, the wireframes, and the design. Everything is on Figma, ready for coding. We are looking for highly experienced people, front and back end coders, iOS, Android, and React Native, who, once they understand this project, see participating as an honor - to be able to help a world-wide population. Serious, committed people who realize this may be their career's most important legacy.
