Chief of Police Paul Jenkins narrowed his eyes as he glared at Steve Oakley, who sat across him from the desk. The clock on the wall to the right showed that the time was nineteen minutes to ten.
“Your wife may be truly missing, Mr Oakley, but surely you don’t expect me to believe your ridiculous story about a phantom force, do you? It’s not just ridiculous; it’s insane. And the San Diego police force has more important things to do, Mr Oakley.”
Steve felt anger rising up in him, but he controlled himself and took two deep breaths.
“Chief Jenkins,” he said, a note of impatience creeping into his voice, “do you imagine that I came from Los Angeles to San Diego crack a joke? I just want you to understand that my wife has vanished and that her kidnapper is likely to be invisible. I know it sounds crazy…”
“Crazy is not good enough to describe it, Mr Oakley,” Jenkins said sharply. “I’d say they haven’t invented the right word for your story.”
Steve leaned forward. “Could you at least listen to me so I can tell you what happened?”
“You got home to find a note from the ‘invisible force.’ This note,” he tapped his finger on the note. “Apparently you pissed off this guy, and he was going to hit back through your wife, who works here in San Diego. You came here immediately.”

“What’s the mission?”
“Don’t you want to know about the training phase?”
“I’d like to know what I’m being trained for.”
“Fair enough. This is for your ears only. You will be trained on how to deactivate the power systems. The idea is to cause a total shutdown and sever the connection between the interior and the rest of the world. If we can disable the loop gates we can stop all entry or interaction between the hyperspace and the normal world.”
I turned to her, keeping my voice as low as hers was. “And why, pray, would we – would you – want to do that?”
“Because we are making a statement, and we’ll stop at nothing to make that statement. This is in protest to the powers that be. They have been profiting off the control of the loop gates, and enriching themselves.”
“I see. And what if I decide not to go along with the plan?”
“Now that you have already heard of the plan, you have reached the point of no return. I’m afraid Alicia would suffer the consequences.”
My heart skipped a beat. “You know about Alicia?”

Introduction
The Old History of Bullying and Bullies
Suppose you have started schooling or moved to a new school and there is a fellow student or kid who is bent on making your life miserable? Perhaps this person is a mild bully who makes fun of you or chases you or an extreme bully who hits you or hides your stuff so you can get into trouble. You are filled with dread every day as you head for school in the morning. You are always looking over your shoulder in case they pop up. You are the victim of bullying and you have no idea why. Why does this bully hate me so much, you ask? I never did them any wrong. Why can’t they give me a break?
Sometimes you go through it and hope that they get tired and will leave you alone. But most bullies only grow stronger with each bullying episode. Bullying gives them satisfaction and they want more. Most bullies are like predators: they identify their prey, isolate the prey and pounce. And pounce some more. And more. And more.

What is Emotional Health?
Emotional health or emotional wellbeing is having a balance and control of one’s emotions, and being able to channel those emotions in the right manner. Emotionally healthy people are able to respond thoughtfully and constructively to their thoughts and have good self-control. They are able to master their feelings and respond appropriately, but with control. We may refer emotional wellbeing as being in control of one’s emotions, thoughts and behaviour related to these thoughts and feelings.
