About
Hello! And Welcome to my RemoteHub profile! My name is Agustina Garrido. I am a language teacher and a recent Translation and Interpreter graduate. Ever since I was very young I felt a deep interest for foreign languages and cultures and, thus, I took the determination to study the Translation and Interpreting degree from the University of Vigo (2015-2019). During my undergraduate studies I studied several languages such as English, French and Japanese. Moreover, I received training to become a future translator and interpreter. I am a devoted learner and as such, I am always striving to educate myself and improve my knowledge of society. Once I graduated, and due to my passion for Japanese culture, I decided to join a course which tackled the main aspects of Japan's culture on UNED (National Distance Education University). There, I studied about Japanese history, art, economy and society. I believe this course was essential to improve my knowledge of the country and its position in the world. Furthermore, I had the opportunity to write several papers about the diplomatic relations between Japan and Spain and about Japanese litterature, among other topics. Afterwards, I took part in other short-term courses such as a course on Manga Translation and another one on Anime Translation. For the duration of the latter I translated many different kinds of genres in order to become aware of what difficulties they entail and how to deal with them in a translation assignament. Regarding my work experience, I have always tried to opt for jobs which are related to the field of foreign languages. In 2018 I worked as a bilingual assistant in a one-month exposition of clay pieces. There, I took on the role of a touristic guide by providing directions and enlighting visitors about the history of the place; and I also interpreted in guided visits. In November of the same year I became an temporary intern in the touristic section of the Council of Malpica de Bergantiños. My main duties as an intern were proofreading texts written in Galician, Spanish and English and translating other materials into and from the aforementioned languages. In October of 2019, once I had graduated from the Translation and Interpreting degree, I started working as a full-time English teacher in Oak English Centre. Specifically, I taught students of all ages (from 3-year-olds to adults) and adapted my teaching methodology depending on the types of learners and their needs. For children, I was required to teach through songs or other didactic methods; for teenagers, I used the English textbooks that best fit their levels; and for adults, I organized several activities such as speaking classes. Lastly, I also focused on helping students who were preparing to sit the official Cambridge examinations (PET, FIRST, ADVANCED). All in all, it was a great experience since I became familiar with the profession and I started to develop a great passion for it. Currently, I am working part-time as an English teacher for Take it Easy Academy. This time the focus is on individual personalized classes for adults who wish to improve their knowledge or understanding of the language or who are aiming to do the official examinations. Through this amazing opportunity I was able to acquire the basic skills as an Online Teacher and what is ultimately needed: the technology involved, the creation of personalised materials and the communication with the students. Overall, I believe every experience, whether academic or work-related, is rewarding and significant as it is a chance to learn new things. Although the path ahead of me is still long, I hope I can become a contribute in a positive manner to society working as a translator, an interpreter or a language teacher.
