About
I am a recent Suma Cum Laude graduate from the University of Ottawa with an Honours Bachelor of Arts with a specialization in American History and Political Science. My undergraduate thesis focused on the legal history of Confederate monument protection, confederate memory, and the emergence of Government Speech Doctrine in Constitutional Law. Throughout my academic career, I have received a number of Grants, Awards, and Scholarships for my academic performance including 4 merit scholarships. As of 2021, I will be pursuing a Master of Arts (MA) History degree at the University of Ottawa, specializing in post-civil rights era legal history, African American studies, and Critical Legal Studies. I am an energetic and enthusiastic writer with an honest, independent voice that resonates with readers. My top skills include writing, editing, as well as legal, political, and academic research, and the ability to promptly meet deadlines. My most recent employment endeavours include Editorial Intern for the Journal: Social History/Histoire Sociale and content writer for my own media platform JM Media. I also have an employment background in the financial services industry, with more than 7 years of experience in risk management, lending analysis, and lending advisement. Beginning in 2021, I will be pursuing a Masters of Arts in History at the University of Ottawa, specializing in American Legal History, especially within the context of civil rights and civil liberties. My Master's research project will focus on the evolution of the American Federal Judiciary system's approach to criminality in the aftermath of the Jim Crow era. The project will question the existence of a permutation of legal factors that contributed to the construction of a racial caste system within the theoretical framework Critical Race Theory. As a survivor of both conversion therapy and abusive evangelical fundamentalism, I am a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community where I have volunteered my time to help members of my community in need. I have also used my experiences with conversion therapy to join my voice to other Canadians who have similar experiences in support of bills that would ban the practice such as the Federal government's Bill C-6 and Bill 599 in Quebec.
