I love words. When I'm not writing my own stuff I'm helping other people improve their writing. Editing requires both empathy and imagination: you have to make the author's vision your own, and put that vision across in the clearest and punchiest way possible.
4 years' editing experience: a novel here, a memoir there, a Greenlandic cruise trip itinerary there. I specialize in academic work and ESOL texts (books and articles on the humane treatment of EU refugees and asylum seekers; a study commissioned by the European Parliament). This work has given me a taste for both project management and advocacy.
2021-22 has been about proofreading and taking notes for differently abled college students. 2018-20 was about blogging, writing freelance articles and building websites. This involved educating myself on best SEO practice, Google Analytics and social media marketing. Before that I worked for Dublin Buzz, where I contributed features and interviews on culture, events, film and travel.
