Het Vlindertje (The Butterfly)

Het Vlindertje Lief Vlindertje met je mooie kleurenrijkdom Ik ben blij dat ik jouw geluk mag meebeleven Liefde missen wij soms zijn mensen oliedom Jij laat zien hoe wij in vreugde kunnen leven Door jouw geluk ben ik mijn zorgen even kwijt In gedachten fladder ik met je mee uit dit tranendal bevrijdt After reading this poem, which is written by my grandfather, I knew it had to be the start of my graduation project. In the poem he talks about how lucky he is to enjoy the butterfly's, happiness and its beautiful colors. How we, as people, sometimes lack of love and how we can be foolish. The butterfly shows us how we can live in peace. Because of the butterfly he is carefree for just a moment and in his mind, he is able to fly away with the butterfly. And by doing so, he is released of this world, which he calls a vale of tears. By doing research on butterflies, I wanted to, by combining all of my discoveries, “recreate” the butterfly from the poem. Each part has a different story, but together they make ‘The Butterfly’. For example, a butterfly’s scales have been transformed into fish, their freedom has been transformed into celebrations and these are surrounded by flowers and plants. This way, you are in their world. By connecting various aspects, I have made a collection of works that together form my butterfly. Hopefully you will fly with my butterfly like my grandfather did with his butterfly.
