My name is RoseMary Gresiak and I'm hoping to make connections with other students and companies that might be useful sometime down the road. Around trying to work full-time and manage some personal issues, it took me YEARS to complete my Bachelor's degree. I had no idea what I was interested in until I was almost done: Human Resources. Once I realized it, I focused as many of my remaining classes on HR related topics. I then graduated with the hope of being able to change my career, but then everything around the world changed with covid. While things have been chaos, I made the decision to go back to school to go for a Master's, this time in Human Resources Management. There are many reasons why this is a topic of interest for me, but ultimately it's about strengthening and supporting the environment and employees of a company to allow everyone (including the company) to truly succeed.
In my previous positions, I have learned quite a bit that can be translated to any position I take on. As a Front Desk Agent, and then a Front Desk Supervisor, at the hotel, I worked as part of a team with many departments. Beyond the employees at the front desk, I also worked with the housekeeping department to help establish best practices and strengthen the communication between departments so that the duties of both teams during the day went smoothly and so our guests experienced a fantastic stay. I also worked with our sales department to help provide leads for new business, and to help coordinate group reservations with our reservation system. Having worked in a hotel, no single day is the same and one must be flexible and adaptable in order to provide guest satisfaction while completing other necessary work. No matter what “plans” I have for the work day, or what list of tasks I need to complete, I always had to make changes and adapt to anything new that came up or other priorities that needed attention. Staying organized and keeping lists is how I learned to best manage my time to ensure that every day was a success.
