About
DEAR SIR/MADAM: Are you looking for a Copy Editor who: • Has 5+ years of professional editing experience? • Has a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology (Honours) & Chemistry w/ minor in Economics? • Has previous research experience, and a desire to further their career in this field? • Has experience writing theses, and formatting for journals, and knowledge of the various writing styles? If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then you need not look any further. You will see from my accompanying resume/cv that I meet all of these qualifications and more. I have worked as the Junior Copy Editor for The Eleutheran Newspaper and Magazine since 2013 to present day. They are published monthly and annually, respectively. My editing skills have grown, matured and encompass proofreading, layout and formatting, and graphic review. I graduated May 2020 with a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Biology and a second major in Chemistry, holding a 3.83 cumulative GPA, having obtained a 3.97 sessional GPA. During my tenure at Acadia, I had the privilege to work on three research projects with my Honours being the biggest. I worked with Dr. Dave Shutler in the Biology department at Acadia University collecting data on Tree Swallows and Leach’s Storm Petrels. I obtained blood samples from Leach’s Storm-petrels for my Honours project to determine if mercury was a possible underlying reason for their population decline. I also had the opportunity to work with Dr. Amitabh Jha within the chemistry department on one of his projects looking for leads in medicinal chemistry. Through these projects I have been gaining research skills, learning how to work within lab settings, learning to write scientific papers and conduct field research. I was also a TA in the Histology lab and Cellbiology lab where I was able to learn from my professors, while helping to maintain a lab setting, mark assignments, helps students have a smooth lab time, and invigilate lab examinations. While endeavoring to build my research skills, I also served as the President of the Acadia International Society and Chairperson of WUSC local committee, where I worked with students on campus to help make a more inclusive, and welcoming community at Acadia for international students and refugees. My ability to work on a team, while managing my time and being well organized has allowed me to succeed in my schoolwork, while being active on campus. I have been awarded scholarships for my academic achievements and awards for the positive impacts I made on campus at Acadia University as outlined in my resume. I currently also work within two labs during the week, the first being an AGAT Laboratories where I am a Lab Technician. The second being the microbiology Lab within Nova Scotia Health Authority, where I am a casual Medical Laboratory Assistant. I am positive I can bring great work ethic to your team. I work well independently, with a team and can work in a fast-paced environment while staying calm. I would welcome the opportunity to work within your company. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me at the email provided. I look forward to hearing back from you! Sincerely, Safyha Bryan.
